About 3 years ago, I was in Villefranche just outside Nice, accompanying a friend who was completing the purchase of an apartment there.

I met the Auctioneer she was dealing with, Bruno and was surprised to see that he was still involved in her purchase even at that stage, helping with all the formalities.

In any event, I fell in love with Villefranche remembering it from a holiday spent in Nice as a child many years ago.

It had changed little and was as delightful and charming as I had remembered it to be. Bruno offered to show me a number of properties for sale.

I needed little persuasion. What made it easier was that Bruno was, and still is, extremely affable and easy to get along with.

I eventually fell in love with a particular apartment with spectacular views and the negotiations commenced.

I had never bought a property abroad before and was extremely nervous at the prospect.

How would I get any work done? Who would do it and how would I manage it in my absence since it was to be a holiday apartment.

At that point it would have taken little to scare me away as the reality of what I was doing suddenly dawned on me.

Thankfully, and to my eternal gratitude, Bruno to the rescue! Very quickly all these reservations slipped away as I realised that no job was too much trouble or too difficult for Bruno.

Before I bought the apartment, I wanted certain work done and I would not have known where to begin to get it started.

Bruno was perfectly happy to get quotes for the work, liaise with the builders and ultimately supervise the work and even acted as Forman on the site ensuring that the work was done properly and to the highest standards.

I had never assumed that such a service would be part of the package but was extremely reassured and happy that Bruno would willingly and gladly assume all these responsibilities on my behalf.

When I went back home and the work progressed, he sent me pictures of the progress.

He even made helpful suggestions about decor and organised the manufacture and delivery of a custom designed mirror I had seen in another apartment he had shown me.

It was not only a great relief, but beyond my wildest expectations that an auctioneer would offer such additional services over and above the actual purchase itself.

Suddenly, the purchase took on a whole new meaning for me.

It was no longer a terrifying prospect of diving into unknown territory with language and practical difficulties, but an exciting, joyful experience with a new found friend only at the end of a telephone line for whom nothing seemed too much to ask.

When it came to complete the purchase, Bruno came to the completion and helped with translation and most importantly, came out to celebrate afterwards.

Next day, he took me shopping in his car for all the essentials.

This was something he need not have done and indeed I did not even ask but, again, Bruno wanted to make sure that I was properly installed with all the necessary utensils for setting up home.

I could not recommend Bruno highly enough. We have become firm friends since then and his willingness to help still goes on.

Only now, some three years on Bruno has just got me a quote for an additional canopy on my terrace.

Indeed he has insisted on checking the standard of the work when completed before I pay for the job, to ensure that it is properly done.

I know I could still call on him to sort out any problem and I know from other friends of mine who have also bought through him that their experience has been similar.

It is also nice to have a local contact from a social point of view as Bruno is good fun and has an extensive knowledge of the area.

In short, I would highly recommend Bruno to any potential purchaser. It is easy enough to find a beautiful property on the French Riviera or in France.

It is not so easy to find a man who graciously, willingly and with good humour, combines Auctioneering with a whole myriad of services from renovations, to excavations, finding people to provide a cleaning service, a janitorial service, helping and advising on decoration, shopping and anything else you care to ask.

The combination, in my opinion, makes Bruno an essential part of buying in the South of France for anyone, but most particularly anyone buying from abroad who needs more that just the beautiful property.

Bruno will provide the dream and the reality, all in one.

A winning formula which I am so glad I benefited from and, I am speaking after 3 years living the dream, thanks to Bruno.

I hope he gets the chance to bring the same pleasure to many more people setting out to live that dream.
