Maps of the French Riviera

Update 2009: I am working hard on a detailed Guide of maps of cities and villages displayed on the site. It is in process! Stay tuned!

The maps of the French Riviera, why plural? Well not only because lots of them are on the market. First it will be interesting to know where the French Riviera starts and ends.

Interactive Map of the French Riviera - Instructions.

After Cannes, there is some dispute regarding its extent, with some authorities (including the official tourist board for the Alpes-Maritimes!!!) arguing that it stops at the border with the “département” of the Var, after Théoule-sur-Mer.

Others suggest it extends further along the Var coastline, at least as far as Saint Tropez but possibly to Hyères or even the border with the Bouches-du-Rhône “département”. That's one of the reasons why most of the maps of the French Riviera are so extended.

Here, locals call this area in French: Côte d'Azur, which could be “Azure Coast” in English. In fact in English this area is called the "French Riviera".

Let them fight with name and borders and just say that the French Riviera extends from St Tropez in the west to Menton in the east through Monaco, Nice, Antibes and Cannes, along the Mediterranean coast of the Alpes-Maritimes “département”, at the border with Italy and its riviera. The maps of the French Riviera often display the Italian Riviera.

Which is sure and accepted by all is that The French Riviera (French: Côte d'Azur, remember?) is part of France's southeastern coast of the Mediterranean Sea! The name of the maps of the French Riviera will have often Côte d'Azur instead of French Riviera.

The area encompassing the part between Menton and Cannes is a major tourist centre noted for its scenery. It's an area of enormous wealth, boundless beauty and endless fascination.

The French Riviera is regarded as one of the most luxurious, glamorous, expensive and sophisticated areas on the planet and is home to many of the world's rich and famous. Cannes is host to the annual presentation of the Palme d'Or, which attracts movie stars from around the world.

You can holiday in this wonderful place for peanuts or spend a fortune, all depending on the size of your wallet and wishes. That's why you definitely need a map of the French Riviera when travelling here!

Today, the celebrated centres retain their glamour, from Cannes to Nice to Monte Carlo to Saint Tropez, but apart from an abundance of sun-bronzed film stars and high-priced hotels, there is so much to see behind the surface glitter of outrageous wealth.

Glorious cerulean sea, ever-present sunshine, palm trees, the luxury yacht culture, film and music festivals, architecture (both French and Italian), wine, food and the beautiful old inland villages set in spectacular scenery, all combine to make the temperate French Riviera a fascinating earthly paradise without equal.

Famous for being famous, the Cote d’Azur is a region where landscape, food, and water merge together to create a unique and sumptuous travel experience. This sunny stretch of the Mediterranean running along the southern coast of France, from the hills and vineyards to La Croisette in Cannes and finishing at the Casino in Monte Carlo. The Cote d’Azur has plenty of excitement to offer the visitor of varied interests. A map of the French Riviera will help you on your journey.

The Romans were lured by the beauty and abundance of the area, and one drive along La Moyenne Corniche and you will understand why. The sea glistens, the breeze is balmy and spectacular residences tucked behind perfectly manicured hedges stand as reward for anyone lucky enough to own a parcel of this paradise.

The Cote d’Azur attracts people from all over the world. After a visit to hilly inland towns like Vence, Saint Paul de Vence, Grasse, and Mougins, most people head for the seaside towns that pepper the coastline. We are talking major league famous seaside resort towns, like Cannes, Saint Tropez, Antibes, and Monaco.
