My Notes on Boston

It is one of United States' oldest cities and was founded in 1630.

Boston had a major role in the American Revolution; it was the location of several major events during that time, and a major shipping port and manufacturing centre.

This city has something for everyone: historic landmarks, museums, sports, and cuisine ranging from fresh seafood to French.

Boston is also the capital and most populous city of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, the largest city in New England.

Boston is considered the economic and cultural centre of the entire New England region.

The city has expanded throughout and beyond the Shawmut peninsula, and has become one of the most culturally significant cities in the United States.

It is recognized as a global or world city.

Today, it is also the city which has the most European in feel in the United States.

A city which is a centre of higher education and health care.

Research, finance, and technology (principally biotechnology) are also fields where the economy of the city is based on.

Many interesting places to visit in Boston as the Franklin Park Zoo, Arthur M. Sackler Museum, Commonwealth Museum, Concord Museum, Harvard Museum of Natural History, John F. Kennedy Presidential Library and Museum, Museum of Fine Arts, Arnold Arboretum, Fenway Park, and Harvard University and much more...

Try also one of the many French Restaurants in Boston and you feel as if you were in France!

Susan's Review

I was thrilled to discover your Pissaladière - Onion Pizza along with all of your other Provencal and French Riviera recipes.

I've eaten Pissaladiere so many times when visiting southern France, but can never seem to get the flavor exactly right when I make it at home - now I realize that perhaps the brown sugar is the "secret" ingredient.

French cuisine is very popular in restaurants here in Boston, possibly because French heritage and French food has a long tradition here.

We have many French Restaurants in Boston.

For example, Paul Revere, one of the most famous Patriots during the American Revolution in the 1770s, was of French ancestry, and our most famous local dessert, Boston Cream Pie , was created by a French chef in 1856 to celebrate the opening of Parker House Hotel.

Although Boston has a number of very elegant and sophisticated French restaurants, such as L'Espalier, Radius, and Les Zygomates, casual bistros are especially popular.

Sel de la Terre, a popular French Provencal restaurant on Boston's waterfront, became so popular that Chef Geoff Gardner opened 2 more branches.

Local New England ingredients are used to prepare Provencal favorites.

Another very popular place, which has also opened restaurants in additional locations, is Petit Robert Bistro.

Its chef / owner, Jacky Robert, is the son of chef / owners of another famous and more formal French restaurant in Boston, Maison Robert, which closed some years ago after his parents retired.

Petit Robert Bistro serves French comfort food, such as Soupe à l'Oignon Gratinée, Coq au Vin, Canard (Duck) Confit, Steak-Frites, and fabulous Patisserie.

In Boston's very hip South End, you'll also find lots of French-inspired bistros and brasseries.

Aquitaine is a local favorite, especially for dishes like Moules (Mussels) à la casserolette, Tarte Tatin, and of course, its wine list.

Gaslight / Brasserie du Coin is a wonderful place for croque-monsieur, crepes, Salade Niçoise and even fromage blanc.

And Hamersley's Bistro, named for chef / owner Gordon Hamersley, specializes in hearty French country dishes.

I would tell you about more wonderful French restaurants in Boston, but writing this much has made me too hungry!

Time to go make your Pissaladière - Onion Pizza Recipe!

Many thanks for sharing this wonderful recipe and the others.
